Manufacturer's Intent: Featuring the trusted single density Element Tour A.I. Core, this ball delivers predictability on challenging patterns while providing smooth transitions to handle wet/dry league conditions with ease. Wrapped in the proven TX-16â„¢ Solid cover and enhanced with Power Edge technology, it clears the fronts effortlessly due to the Power Edge Finish, preserving energy for a stronger backend motion. This asymmetric benchmark excels across various conditions, especially when lane patterns become challenging. Paired with the Ion Pro and Ion Max, the Ion Series creates a complete arsenal with true shape progression to keep you ahead of transition.
After taking some time off from drilling new balls, I decided to start on reworking my bag by starting with this Ion Pro Solid. Storm continues to make progress with its new Power Edge Polish, and the Ion Pro Solid is one of the stronger polished balls I've seen off of their line in the last couple of years. I drilled my Ion Pro Solid with my standard pin up layout, which places the pin 5 1/2" from my positive axis point. With the slightly lower differential in the Ion Pro Solid, this gives me around 3" of total track flare in the ball. The end result ends up being a ball that will create some friction and hook, but not in huge amounts.
For my game, Ion Pro Solid ended up being an incredible benchmark reaction that should fit right in the middle of a new bag. With the polished finish, this piece is very easy through the front of the lane and should give most users a gradual arcing type of backend move. I don't see any skid/snap type of movement from the Ion Pro Solid. After a few sessions with this ball, it looks like one that will be able to easily read lane conditions and let the user know where the oil is, and where it isn't. I'm also a huge fan of single-colored balls, as it just makes them easier to read on the lane. So, Ion Pro Solid tends to fit my eye pretty well.
Ion Pro Solid should be an excellent upgrade for users with an IQ Tour that's tired and needs updated. I'd also expect bowlers with the original Ion Pro to like this as a complimentary piece to it. Years ago, the Storm IQ Tour set the standard for benchmark performance. Ion Pro Solid appears to be in position to extend Storm's strength in this space and should be a favorite for many styles.
