Manufacturer's Intent: Why the Gremlin TOUR-X? In the modern game, "more hook" isn't always the answer—better hook is. The Gremlin TOUR-X is built for the competitive bowler who needs a ball that blends the wet and the dry. Expect a medium-flare pattern that keeps your transitions smooth and your carry high. The Bottom Line: If you loved the shape of the original Gremlin but want a more disciplined, "Tour-ready" version for league nights or tournament blocks, the Gremlin TOUR-X is your new go-to.

If you read my review on the Storm Bionic, you'll remember that I commented about Storm finally getting to an upgraded shape of a legendary seller for their brand. The Gremlin Tour-X has similar features of another ball that has had a historical run - the Storm IQ Tour. For those that loved the original navy-blue IQ Tour and need a new piece, I'd immediately consider the Gremlin Tour-X at the top of your list.

Gremlin Tour-X starts with a medium rg, low differential core shape that provides smooth transition with limited track flare. While the IQ Tour series does use a faster revving, lower rg core shape, the Gremlin Tour-X appears to have a little more coverstock strength built in. The primary features of the ball are extremely smooth transitions, and reasonably good length despite the 4000 grit Abralon finish (no polish).

I considered drilling this ball with a lower/stronger pin position due to my success with that layout in IQ Tours. Perhaps on my second one! This Gremlin Tour-X got a taller pin up drilling that carries it long through the front of the lane. With this 5 1/2" pin distance to my positive axis point, I see around 2" of total track flare from the Gremlin Tour-X. This seems to give it just enough friction to not hydroplane on top of the oil pattern, while still retaining that smoother shape that Roto Grip was going for. The IQ Tour is a real legend in the ball manufacturing world, and it would take years of sales to reach that status. But the performance is there to start with out of the gate. Gremlin Tour-X is a unique combination on the ball wall right now.

I believe Gremlin Tour-X could be an exceptional ball for our higher revolution players. This ball should give them a combination of power and control that the higher performance products typically don't offer. We would also recommend this one for tournament bowlers who see some flatter lane patterns.

Roto Grip's new Gremlin Tour-X is available Friday, March 13th at Total Bowling Gear!
