Manufacturer's Intent: The Ember joins the 800 Series and is designed to complement the Cove to handle medium conditions. The Ember utilizes the same all-new Magna A.I. Core as the Cove but differs in the choice of the cover. The RB 82 Pearl Reactive Coverstock was chosen as a more aggressive cover designed to give you stronger backend motion when you need it.
When building a new bag for the upcoming league season, I had my eyes on a few different symmetric core balls with polish on the covers. With one of my previous tries not working out as planned, I decided to give this 900 Global Ember a try, and it fit in much closer to what I was expecting. I used my standard pin up layout on the Ember, with the pin falling about 3/4" of an inch above the bridge (tough to see in this image with a red pin).
The first thing you'll notice if you drill an Ember is the easy length through the front of the lane. With a symmetric core of a lower differential (.043") and a polished cover, this ball is super easy to get through the front of the lane. That's something that I hope will get this ball in play on Tuesday nights at Olathe Lanes East. Ember's core shape combines that length with a smooth/controlled shape in the breakpoint when seeing the friction. At first, I thought the ball might be a touch on the weaker side, but when I moved a little right closer to the friction on the lane, the Ember really showed off its strengths. This is an outstanding long and controlled arc piece that will be excellent on house shots. If you're looking to give the Ember a shot, just make sure you're using it on dry enough conditions where it will really stand out.
This ball also has a shot to be an excellent piece for our high-revolution and no-thumb players. The combination of length and control provided by the Ember will be a big asset to those styles. I can't see any reason to change the surface on this ball for myself yet. I have a few other duller surface balls that are better suited on heavier oil, so I won't be trying anything with this one.
Ember is a sharp looking 3-color ball from the brand produced by Storm Products Inc. 900 Global's new Ember and Cover are available Friday, August 15th. We'll have these in stock in both 14# and 15# at Total Bowling Gear.
