Manufacturer's Intent: There is no denying that CELL™ is one of the most iconic names in terms of bowling balls. From day one, the Nucleus™ block design provided game-changing performance and forgiveness for all bowlers no matter their style or abilities. SO, we thought why not take one of the greatest of all time and make it even better! Our new X-CELL™ unlocks greater levels of performance and forgiveness thanks to A.I. Core Technology and the new eTrax™ ULTRA coverstock material. Some might say this ball provides forgiveness overload, we beg to differ. We like to think this is just the beginning of changing the game yet again.
This is another strong, asymmetric ball that I've drilled up for this season. I've got a lot of reviews coming as I've had several weeks/months off due to a few issues. X-Cell is likely to be the strongest rolling ball of the ones that I've drilled to start the league season. It all starts with a very strong Nucleus weightblock, designed for fast revs and quick mid-lane motion. I actually tested the original Cell series while working at Ebonite, and I've always been impressed with how this core progresses down the lane. Early/fast revs with strong continuation will be what you'll see with the new X-Cell.
The update from the original Cell is in the addition of the A.I. core technology, combined with a new eTrax Ultra coverstock that gives it the ability to handle even more lane oil. This one looks for the puddle and loves to be in it. When the lanes are very wet, or even after they cliff and become super wet/dry, the X-Cell will be able to play the slickest parts of the lane pattern unlike many other balls out there. It's a lot of hook, but it's also the right kind of hook. It's strong and continuous without bogging down like overly aggressive balls do.
Something else you'll find with the X-Cell is a litter darker color scheme that's easier to read on the lane. There are lots of products on the wall with vibrant colors that seem to contrast on the lane. That's great and all cosmetically, but sometimes they're just impossible to see what they're doing throughout the lane progression. X-Cell is a dark, multi-colored ball that's easy to read down lane.
I haven't tried polishing this ball as I really don't have any reason to. I'll be keeping it at the 2000 grit abralon finish. If you're looking for something to get through the lane easier than this duller cover, my preference would be to go with an Attention Star versus polishing this one. Attention Star has proven to be extremely versatile on medium oil lanes, and comes factory polished.
